6 Day Update

Ari's injuries were on the sever side. There was quite a bit of damage to his nerves, but we were very lucky that we were in a vets office 2 hours after he lost feeling/control and a great vet who, before we even put Ari on the table, knew the injury, and sent us straight to one of the best surgeons in the area. (down the hill about 15 minutes away). He was in surgery within 5 hours and apparently that doesn't happen a lot.

We have found that a lot of vets will simply send animals away with pain killers.

In any case, we are very lucky with how well Ari is doing. On Saturday he was was able to come home with us. only 5 days after the surgery.

We he was having issues with a swollen esophagus and that held him in for another day until he could go a full day without throwing up.

Apparently it can take weeks or up to months for dogs to regain movement in their legs after this injury.

Ari walked out of the vets office (with help of a sling) only after 5 days. The vet said that they have never seen anyone recover so quickly and never have let a dog walk out after so little time.

That afternoon we went out for 20 minutes. Ari jumped over and out of his cage, tried to get on the kitchen counter, walked all the ways to the garage, busted through the cat door into the garage, gone down the steps and was eating some cat poo from the litter boxes when we got home.

Today he is doing even better. He still needs help and get tired very easily, but he is walking and getting better. There is a case of another frenchie same age, same injury, and after 2 months, he is just starting to be able to move his legs, so we are very lucky.

Pup Update

day 2 is ending with Ari's recovery. So far he still has not regained control of his hind legs or his bladder but is making promising progress.

Today we has been able to stand for a few minutes, and he actually was able to climb/jump on to chelseys lap.

But it still could be a weeks before he may be able to walk. The main thing that will get him sent home is getting control of his bladder back.

But the vet says he is showing all the sign they like to see.

We should hit the tables in vegas!

So, as is our style, more pet problems.

This weekend little Ari got all excited and was running around the backyard in Tahoe. He ended up running and jumping up on the railing and superman jumping off the the edge of the deck. He was walking and running fine the rest of the weekend, but woke up this morning at 5am paralyzed.

He ended up rupturing and herniated 3 discs in his back. He spent 5 hours in surgery this afternoon and feeling has returned to his legs. Whiles its looking positive, there is a still a chance that he wont be able to walk. But, the specialist has high hopes.

So maybe he will be in a little puppy wheel chair when the fam comes down in a month.. haha, he could heal quickly or slowly. We just have to wait and see.

This dog is costing more then my car. hahaha Pet insurance anyone?
